Next week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan (I didn't even know this was a thing) with a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, April 11th at 1 pm.

According to WDIV,  state emergency management officials are asking government agencies, organizations, families and individuals to be a part of this statewide preparedness activity. It's not something that's mandatory but it is encouraged. Nearly all state of Michigan facilities will be participating.

It's probably a good time to talk with your family about some sort of tornado plan should there be one in your area this spring and summer. It's really good to make sure your kids have a plan especially if you're not a home when a tornado warning hits.

I don't know if we'll participate in the drill here at the station since we never have in my near 17 years here at the Banana. If a tornado rips through here, we're screwed I think because there aren't many safe places to go. The safest place would have to be in the Banana studio, so whoever is on air at the time is probably going to be the lucky one.
