This year, Old Newsboys of Flint celebrates 90 years of helping needy children in Genesee County. To date, more than 775,000 children have received gifts from Santa via the Old Newsboys.

In honor of turning 90, the Newsboys have added a summer event, "Christmas in July," this year to celebrate and to raise money for the its chief programs.

"Christmas in July" is set for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 20 at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center, 5353 Gateway Center in Flint Township. Tickets for the event run $50 each or $90 for a pair.

Old Newsboys is best known for its Christmas Box Program. According to the organization's Facebook page, children who are low income (185% of poverty) or suffer from special circumstances— sudden situation changes like homelessness or parental job loss— qualify for the program. Each Christmas Box contains a sweatsuit, socks and underclothes, a hat and pair of warm gloves, dental hygiene products and a beautiful and age-appropriate new toy.

In 2011, 5,486 children received Christmas Boxes from the Old Newsboys of Flint.
