Wednesday I picked up a brand new kopy of Mortal Kombat (which is incredible BTW) only to learn I was unable to get my ass kicked by 12 year olds online. Sony has shut down PSN due to security issues and there is no telling when it will be back up.

I didn't really know why I couldn't sign in to the Playstation Network at first, I assumed it was my internet which is sometimes goofy like that. So I played Story Mode instead and decided to try and figure out the issue Thursday. Thursday I was having the same issue and the message "An error occurred while trying to sign in" kept popping up every time
I tried.  Then I discovered that the PSN has been shut down by Sony itself due to an "external intrusion". Pretty scary to hear a term like that from a network who has a lot of people's credit card information stored within it (mine included). Here is the official word from Playstation as of today:

"I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience."

Let's hope they wrap this up soon, I just completed almost all of the one player modes on MK9 and would like to get back to DC Universe Online (a game which is completely unplayable w/o the PSN). I may have to get some friends or get a real hobby like exercising (Yeah right, f@#% that!). Either way I guess a few days w/o the PSN (which is a free service) is better than paying for Xbox Live and buying a new system every 2 years because of the red ring of death, plus the Netflix feature is still working. I'm just glad Sony cares enough to take the steps necessary to make sure this doesn't happen again.
