New music from Primus has been absent from store shelves for just under 12 years. Now comes word that their eight studio album titled 'Green Naugahyde' will be released this September.

Les Claypool produced and mixed the album that will be the bands first since it became commonplace for music to be dowloaded (legally and illegally) online. Original guitarist Larry LaLonde returns for the album as well, but they will be without longtime drummer Tim Alexander. Instead original drummer Jay Lane will be on the drums for the first time since before they recorded their debut. The press release said 'Green Naugahyde' highlights Primus' "incomparable sound and also sees them bringing it into the next millennium. It is a cerebral and complex album that, like all of the band’s output, is teeming with the band’s signature blend of whimsy and underlying darkness.”

Claypool also contributed his thoughts on the new material:

“If I were to look at all of our records, it seems like this is reminiscent of the early stuff. Obviously, with Jay there’s a newness to it, but because he left the band right before we recorded our first record, his approach has an eerie harkening to the old Frizzle Fry days.”
