It could be difficult to track down psychedelic mushrooms in parts of Michigan this season. This is because the police recently busted a couple of psilocybin manufacturers that had the potential of producing around $120,000 worth of the hallucinogenic “pizza toppings,” as we used to call them back in college.

Earlier last week, members of the Traverse Narcotics Team kicked down the door of a 33-year-old Bellaire resident only to discover a large supply of psilocybin mushrooms and the equipment to produce much more.

Drug agents also raided a home in Kalkaska County where they seized a psilocybin grow operation and a substantial supply of mushrooms ready for sale.

While it is not known just how much of an impact these busts will have on black market psilocybin sales this year, there is always a dry spell after the police swoop in and bring the hammer down.

But you can always grow your own. Just remember: Psilocybin is a Schedule I controlled substance under the Controlled Substance Act. Simply being caught in possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms will cause you trouble with the law, while any evidence of manufacturing could mean prison time. You have been warned.
