The Salvation Army needs volunteer bell ringers, and they are offering up a chance at some bling as an incentive.

There are only a few paid bell ringers each year, and the application period to join that force has already passed. Most of the bell ringers that you see this time of year are volunteers trying to help the Salvation Army Red Kettle mission.

With the extreme worker shortage we're going through right now, you can imagine that it's just as hard to find volunteers. That's why The Salvation Army of Genesee County is offering up some bling as a prize to the Red Kettle volunteers.

Time2Ring is the incentive program for volunteer bell ringers by the Salvation Army and Gaines Jewelers.

The Time2Ring program is pretty simple. For every two hours that you volunteer as a Salvation Army bell ringer, you get one entry into the drawing for the diamond ring. Actually, let me clarify this, it's a $3,000 diamond ring from Gaines Jewelwers.

Major Randy Halestorm talked to MidMichiganNow about the need for volunteers this year.

We are reaching out to the community, church, businesses, schools, and neighborhood groups to partner with us to staff our kettles this season, This year, we need to have more families, businesses, and neighborhood groups get involved

Becoming a volunteer is very easy, and it can be done online. Just go to the Time2Ring sign-up page here, and click the dates and locations that you are available to be a bell ringer. Once you reach the 2-hour threshold, you'll be in the drawing for the diamond ring!

I've volunteered many times over the years, and even though it's not the easiest thing to do, it is extremely rewarding. Watching the generosity of everyone walking in and out of the stores helps to restore some faith in the people around us.
