The Satanic Temple plans to erect a hellish Christmas display this year near the steps of the Michigan Capitol. The state has granted the group permission to spread holiday cheer in the form of serpents and a baphomet from December 21 through the 23rd.

"We would prefer that no religious iconography was displayed on Capitol grounds or on state grounds for that matter," Jex Blackmore, with the Detroit chapter told Mlive. "But if there was going to be a singular voice represented, we felt it was best to add to that representation of diversity here in Michigan."

Members of the Michigan State Capitol Commission have confirmed that The Satanic Temple has been approved to display a 3-foot by 3-foot image on the north Capitol lawn. For those people who do not agree with their decision to allow Satanic beliefs to be displayed at the Capitol building, the commission says it is about allowing free speech.

"We are restricted by the Constitution and bound by the Constitution to recognize their First Amendment rights," said John Truscott. "We don’t have the ability to reject them if they meet the guidelines of the Capitol."

Really, what Truscott is trying to say is the state is bound by a Satan Clause.
