Scour is the latest project from iconic metal vocalist Philip Anselmo, rounded out by a stellar supporting cast. The band will be releasing its debut self-titled EP tomorrow (July 15) through Anselmo's own Housecore Records and Loudwire is offering a full stream of the entire release in the player below.

The band plays a caustic brand of black metal in the vein of Scandinavian greats like Marduk and Necrophobic, toeing the death metal line at times on tracks like "Clot" and the final moments of EP closer "Tear Gas." Anselmo adopts some of his most aggressive techniques since laying down his shrieks and howls on Viking Crown's Unorthodox Steps of Ritual EP where he first began flirting with black metal.

With no song eclipsing the three minute mark, Scour is a sonic deathblow spanning just 14 minutes. Anselmo's counterparts, John Jarvis (bass, Pig Destroyer), Derek Engemann (guitar, Cattle Decapitation), Chase Fraser (guitar, Continuum, ex-Animosity, ex-Decrepit Birth), and Jesse Schobel (drums, Strong Intention), do an incredible job of crafting concise yet devastatingly effective and atmospheric songs. "Clot," once again, is a highlight for its immensely dark mood, rounded out by those aforementioned brutish moments.

Speaking about how "Tear Gas" came together, Engemann said, “‘Tear Gas’ was the final song written for the debut EP. It was completed backstage on the Cannibal Corpse / Cattle Decapitation tour last year. Every day Jarvis and myself would 'Scour' for an isolated, quiet spot to set up my portable recording studio. This song has a chorus section at the end that is unique to this album. Once it was finished, I sent it to Philip to write the lyrics. Of course, 'The Kid' completely just nailed the chorus. ‘Let the war be waged…’”

Scour is available at the Housecore Records webstore, with options including vinyl, CD and bundles that are packaged with a t-shirt. Additional information about the band can be found here.
