Slash: Money Would Not Be Determining Factor for a Guns N’ Roses Reunion

Mary Ouellette,

Slash has moved on with his career, as have many of his former Guns N’ Roses bandmates. Even Guns N’ Roses have moved on, with Axl Rose fronting the group that features a completely different lineup. But still, there are always questions about if a reunion of the original band will ever take place.

Slash, while speaking to New York’s Newsday, said he feels that a full reunion will never happen. He tells the paper, “I think that time is sort of passed at this point, but there was a period where big wads of cash were shaking in our direction. I think the concept of getting the band back together based on money is not going to happen.”

As it was, a good portion of the original group turned up for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction earlier this year. The guitarist says, “Given the history of the band, it really doesn’t seem that bizarre [that there was drama surrounding the ceremony]. Originally I didn’t want to deal with it. It was a big, unanswered question up until the 11th hour. We made do with what we had, and it turned out to be a really cool experience.”

This year also marked the 25th anniversary of the group’s debut disc, ‘Appetite for Destruction.’ Looking back on the landmark release, Slash stated, “It doesn’t seem like that long ago. The concept of a quarter of a century is crazy. It’s become a very iconic record, and I’m proud of that. One of the most significant things about it is being considered a must-have for everybody’s rock and roll collection.”

These days Slash says he’s happy to do his thing, and the current lineup he has for his ‘Apocalyptic Love’ album allowed him to take control of things a little more than he had in other projects.
