The latest video from Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators is "Beneath the Savage Sun." The song from the album World on Fire was written from the perspective of an elephant whose family has been wiped out.

Slash and Kennedy witnessed the plight of the elephants when they were on tour in South Africa. They wrote the song and have now partnered with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to raise awareness of the slaughter of elephants. Watch the video above, which begins with Slash and Kennedy talking about the issue.

"An elephant is killed every 15 minutes for its ivory and the result is the elephant population has declined 95% in the past century," Slash says. "Seeing that these majestic animals are on the path to extinction, possibly within the next decade, we wrote 'Beneath The Savage Sun' and partnered with IFAW. Donate to IFAW's work to take action and protect elephants."

In an article posted on the IFAW website, Slash and Kennedy wrote, "Even though elephants can weigh up to seven tons and most people will never see an elephant in the wild, elephants share some amazing traits with humans. Elephants show emotions like love and joy. They can express empathy. They are loyal to their families and devoted to their young."

The article continues, "They grieve in some of the same ways we do: it’s not uncommon that they’ll keep weeklong vigils over fallen family members, then later revisit their bones. When an estimated 25,000 to 50,000 elephants are killed each year for their ivory, those who survive must be in nearly constant mourning. With these staggering and saddening statistics, we couldn’t sit in silence any longer."

Slash appeared on CBS This Morning to talk about the video and partnership with IFAW, the possibility of a Guns N' Roses reunion and other topics. To donate to IFAW and receive an MP3 download of "Beneath the Savage Sun, go here.
