Slipknot's Corey Taylor has gotten further into the seriousness of his spinal injury, claiming in a new interview that if he hadn't undergone surgery when he did, he would have ended up paralyzed.

Taylor's spinal surgery forced Slipknot to postpone their summer tour with Marilyn Manson and Of Mice & Men. However, Corey soldiered on and eventually took the stage wearing a neck brace for his own safety. Taylor admits he probably should've waited longer before returning, but he's been touring hard nonetheless.

In a new interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Corey speaks of his good fortune. "I am one of the luckiest people on this entire planet," he begins. "Beat the odds, got to do exactly what I wanted to do with my life, and I have been able to do it professionally for almost 18 years. I have beautiful kids, I have a wonderful wife, I have family I would lay down in traffic for, and there doesn’t seem to be a ceiling for what I am able to do. I also beat the odds with spinal surgery. If I hadn’t caught it, I would be paralyzed. The doctor told me that not too long ago, which scared the crap out of me."

In more lighthearted news, Corey Taylor has vowed to continue slapping phones out of inattentive fans' hands at live shows. Back in July, Taylor spotted a fan on his phone in the very front row of a Slipknot gig. Aggravated by what he identified as disrespect, Taylor slapped the dude’s phone right out of his hands. Slipknot even uploaded the moment onto their social media pages, where it received a ridiculous amount of plays.

Taylor made peace with the slap-ee, but promises the device destruction will continue if need be. “I don’t mind people who take pictures. I don’t even mind people who shoot video. I love that because you’re still engaged in the show," Corey explains. "A lot of people get the wrong idea, they think that if I just see someone on their phone, I’m trying to rage quit their fun. I’m not trying to do that at all.”

Corey continues, “But if I see someone, and it’s so obvious they’re not even there, you’ve got to poke them with a stick to get their attention sometimes. Sometimes that means smacking the phone out of their hands. You can hate me all you want. It’s not going to stop me from smacking those things out of people’s hands.”

There’s only a few dates left in Slipknot’s tour with Marilyn Manson and Of Mice & Men, so there's still time to get your phones slapped by Corey Taylor!
