How hard is the next Smashing Pumpkins album gonna be? Hard enough that Tommy Lee is breaking drums playing its songs.

According to a new post on the Pumpkins' official website, the Motley Crue drummer is bashing the hell out of equipment. "No, that is not 3 men sitting around a tribal fire," Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan writes beneath a photo of some arms and a drum. "That would be a snare destroyed by T Lee, the lugs literally disemboweling from within. Sounds like the true definition of heavy drum vibes, no?"

You can see a picture of the damaged instrument below.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Lee will be playing on the upcoming Pumpkins album, 'Monument to an Elegy,' which is due later this year. And from Corgan's recent posts, it sounds like things are right on schedule for the band, which isn't exactly known for keeping schedules.

The broken drum stems from the tracking sessions for the "last of the demos," writes Corgan, who's been crazy busy lately putting together the new Smashing Pumpkins album, finding a whole bunch of unreleased music from the '80s, posing with his cats for a magazine cover and releasing a limited-edition album of experimental songs. Whew!
