Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan ‘Disappointed in America’

Billy Corgan’s war of words against, oh, pretty much everything continues. This time, while appearing last week (June 29) on CNN’s ‘Piers Morgan Tonight,’ the Smashing Pumpkins‘ auteur set his sights on the American public, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m very disappointed in my country right now because I think we’ve lost our moral compass,” Corgan said. “At some point, we have to get out of this paternalistic churn we’re in where we want Daddy to come save us and the banks to come and save us. We need to get back to a level of social responsibility that we haven’t seen for a long time.”

“I don’t see the vigorous democracy that I was raised to believe in, and I don’t understand where that went,” he continued, while stating that President Obama “ran on a moral compass agenda, but what happened?”

Corgan has been getting as much publicity for his opinions as his music as he promotes Smashing Pumpkins’ new album, ‘Oceania.’ His own strong moral compass allowed him to recently claim that nearly all the bands that he came up with are either “lazy or they’re scared.” He also slammed his ex-bandmates and said that he wanted to “piss on f—ing Radiohead” for what he perceives as their “pomposity.”

Despite all his rage, ‘Oceania,’ debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.
