Billy Corgan has been releasing a song at a time via their website as part of a 44 song project called Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. Two years and 10 songs later he has decided to release a 10 song album titled Oceania and re-release their classic albums.

According to Corgan the Pumpkins will enter the studio shortly to record around 10 songs for his "album within an album" Oceania. The Teargarden project started out with decent tunes being released for free on SP's website, but nothing really amazing was produced at first. The last few songs (The Fellowship, Lightning Strikes) have progressed nicely though and reflect the sound of the Pumpkins that I am a fan of.

Corgan also said in his youtube announcement of Oceania, that after a ten year struggle they had secured the rights to all of the previously released and unreleased material in the Smashing Pumpkins' vault. They will start by reissuing the classic SP albums in sequence with this year seeing the release of Gish, Siamese Dream, and Pisces Iscariot. He added that one more Teargarden song titled Owata will be released for free via the website in the coming weeks. As a fan I really hope they keep moving in the direction the last pair of songs hinted at. Check them out for yourself.
