Soundgarden‘s long-awaited new album finally has a release date: November 13. That’s according to guitarist Kim Thayil, who revealed the news to Rolling Stone (via NME) along with details about a couple of the new songs.

Thayil says of the album, “It re-establishes that we still rock, we’re still heavy, and we’re still a little weird.” He confirmed the titles of two songs on the new record: ‘Blood on the Valley Floor’ and ‘A Thousand Days Before.’ Thayil said the latter is “a little Indian thing and some chicken-pickin’. We call it ‘country and eastern.’”

Upon reuniting in 2010, the grunge gods made a conscious effort to take their time recording a new album rather than rushing out a subpar project. The record, which still has no title, was finished earlier this year and will hit stores more than 16 years after their last release, 1996′s ‘Down on the Upside.’

Soundgarden gave fans a taste of new music in April with the release of ‘Live to Rise,’ which appeared on the ‘Avengers’ soundtrack, but frontman Chris Cornell has said the new album won’t sound anything like that track. “Soundgarden does a lot of time signature changes and shifts and things like that,” Cornell explained. “It felt like ['Live to Rise'] should be a little more straightforward ’cause it’s for a broad audience.”
