After busting out some great versions of Metallica’s ‘Creeping Death’ and Kiss’ ‘Love Gun’ on their last tour, Stone Sour have entered a Los Angeles area studio to begin recording a covers album. The band took to Facebook to post some photos of the studio sessions, which you can see below.

Stone Sour covered the likes of Metallica, Kiss, Judas Priest and Peter Gabriel on their last North American Tour, so there's a chance we could see those artists covered on the band's upcoming effort.

The group made waves last November when they let go of guitarist Jim Root, who still is in Slipknot with Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor. Root initially said he was “not happy about it” and that it was not his decision to leave the band. Later Root said that he “wasn’t really happy” in Stone Sour.

Corey Taylor recently opened up about the tense Slipknot recording sessions following Stone Sour’s split with Root saying, “It was difficult, at first. It put a strain between he and I for a little bit. It was one of those things where the timing just sucked. But at the same time, we knew that, on both sides, we’ve gotta do what we’ve gotta do.” Taylor added, “At the same time, we had this amazing project that we were working on [with Slipknot], so we were able to kind of channel that and put it into what we were making, which I think in a lot of ways helped the overall aggression and emotion really get there.”

Stone Sour are moving forward and fans can expect their new covers albums next year.

Meanwhile, Slipknot, who still feature Taylor and Root in their lineup, will release ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’ on Oct. 21. The album is available for pre-order at Amazon and iTunes. The band will perform at Knotfest in San Bernardino, Calif. on Oct. 25 and 26. Check out all their tour dates here.
