In an in-depth interview, Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo says the band is very happy to be working with Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, and glad they no longer have to work with their former singer Scott Weiland.

DeLeo didn’t mince words during the chat. He tells Live Nation via Yahoo Music, "There's no comparison. It's like talking about the strength of a 2-year-old baby compared to a professional body builder. I'll tell you this man, Robert, Eric and I are really fortunate. We're having the time of our lives right now. We really feel like this has been a rebirth."

In case that wasn’t clear enough, this was DeLeo’s answer when asked about a possible reunion with Weiland: "Why the f--- would we want that? That f--king mess? I just told you earlier we're on a rebirth now. We're with a guy that pushes us. We're with a guy that is 1000% present…I've waited almost my entire career for this."

As for where they are in the process of creating their first full-length album with Bennington, DeLeo said they’re making progress. "Right now we have six songs completely done that I've even laid down solos on," DeLeo stated. "Chester has vocals on one of the six songs, so when we get home, he's going to try and sing on some others.”

Last night (April 27), Stone Temple Pilots performed at Irving Plaza in New York City. The concert was filmed for a live stream, but you can still watch the show online in the player below. The band plays in Boston tonight and then head to Philadelphia for a concert on Thursday.
