In a 6 to 1 vote last night, the Swartz Creek city council voted for the merger of Swartz Creek and Mundy Township police departments. The merger will create the Metro Police Authority of Genesee County.

On February 1st, both departments will temporarily begin working together out of the Mundy Township station. There are plans to move both departments to a new facility on Hill 23 Drive.

Swartz Creek Police Lt. Matthew Bade stated:

"We're gonna be able to provide much more effective and efficient comprehensive policing agency to both municipalities. "We both bring certain things to the table that the other doesn't have. So in that that regard, the citizens of both municipalities are going to benefit greatly."

The goal of the merger is to provide 24/7 coverage of the area.
