If any band can understand a loss, the Deftones can. Chris Kelly of the 1990's rap duo Kriss Kross was found dead this past Wednesday. Shortly after the news broke, Deftones paid tribute to the artist on stage.
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who has been hospitalized since a devastating car accident in 2008, has passed on at the age of 42.
Metallica started 2013 in a big way by revealing that they would be staging their second annual Orion Music + More Festival in Detroit on June 8 and 9. Now, the band has unveiled the bands that will join them at the two-day extravaganza. Among the acts sharing the stage with Metallica will be Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, Rise Against and more.
Deftones continue to receive plenty of acclaim for their 'Koi No Yokan' album, with the disc making many year-end Top 10 critics lists, including a No. 1 spot on Loudwire's 10 Best Rock Albums of 2012. But the success for the band is bittersweet as they've been doing it without the services of longtime bassist Chi Cheng, who has mostly been in a comatose state since his 2008 car accident.
Four years have passed since Deftones bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a car accident which left him in a coma. Having only been in a partially conscious state since Feb. 2012, Chi is now able to spend his life out of a hospital despite many return trips due to various infections. In a long post by Chi's mother, she shares the latest on Chi's recovery, including a close call concerning oxygen deprivation.
Ozzfest may leave quite an impression on Japan next year. Last night, though, Deftones came closer to having Chi back than they've been in nearly four years, as the band invited Chi's son Gabe onstage to perform with them in San Francisco.
Deftones are inching closer to a new album, and have now revealed the artwork for their 'Koi No Yokan' collection (posted to the left). The visually intriguing cover, which they debuted at their website and Facebook pages, appears to be mirrored sections of a dark room, with only a dulled green entryway and glowing orange floor lights reflecting back.
