The star of Mel Gibson’s religious blockbuster also promised ‘Passion 2’ would be “the biggest film in history.”

Mel Gibson has spent the majority of his career playing variations of the same slightly unhinged character, so it was probably inevitable — even despite his well-deserved years in the Hollywood penalty box — that some producer would find occasion to cast him as a slightly unhinged dad. The new trailer for Blood Father shows Gibson ranting and raving as per usual, only this time he has an estranged daughter on the run to protect and a survivalist beard. The latter certainly seems like an upgrade.

First, the good news: Robert Downey, Jr. has agreed to star in 'Iron Man 4' for Marvel! Considering everything he has been saying over the past year or so - essentially that he can't imagine an 'Iron Man 4' ever happening - that's a major step in the right direction and a huge win for Marvel Studios. But...Downey's agreement has come with one rather large condition. That his old friend, and current member of the Hollywood blacklist, Mel Gibson be allowed to direct.

'The Expendables 3' began filming in Bulgaria today, and Lionsgate marked the occasion by sending out a press release that not only confirms most of the crazy ensemble cast but teases a plot that sounds just nutty enough to earn back our attention after the mediocre second film. It's been rumored for some time now, but it's now official: the great(ly troubled) Mel Gibson has joined the cast of 'The Expendables 3,' where he'll play the main bad guy. He's also being joined by Antonio Banderas, another fading star who has been rumored to join the film for quite some time.
