System of a Down have just announced that their only U.S. performance in 2013 will take place at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl on July 29, so if you're a hardcore fan, you may want to set the date, no matter where you happen to live in the States.
System of a Down fans have been patient in recent years, with the group spending a lot of time on hiatus pursuing other musical avenues. Though the band has reunited for a series of shows over the past two years, there has been no talk about future albums or dates … until now. System have revealed their first two performances of 2013, set to take place in August.
Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, System of a Down singer Serj Tankian and Rise Against frontman Tim McIlrath have joined forces to create an unofficial anthem for the Occupy Wall Street movement. Morello recently performed a free show to mark the one-year anniversary of Occupy and to help "re-energize" the political faction.
System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan has worked with various artists since the band’s hiatus in 2006. Along with contributing to the solo career of System frontman Serj Tankian, Dolmayan has been the drummer for the Daron Malakian side project Scars on Broadway. However, in a recent interview, Dolmayan revealed that he is no longer a member of Scars on Broadway, despite the band currently working on a new album.
More than a year-and-a-half after the celebrated return of System of a Down, it’s possible that we may now have a timetable for when the Armenian-American quartet will be releasing a new album.

System of a Down announced their hiatus in 2006, eventually returning once again as a cohesive unit in late 2010. However, bassist Shavo Odadjian recently revealed that he never considered System of a Down to have been broken up, despite what many fans perceived about the band’s five-year halt. Furthermore, Shavo has gone even further to reassure fans, stating that he believes the band will “never break up.”
This year is shaping up to be a busy one for Serj Tankian. With System of a Down recently announcing their summer co-headlining tour with Deftones and Tankian’s new solo disc ‘Harakiri’ due out July 10, it’s all systems go!
