Target has announced plans to close its store located on Center Road in Flint early next year.

Rumors began to circulate on social media, after employees of the store were informed Monday that the store will close on January 30, 2016. An employee at the East Flint store confirmed the closing, noting that she “has seen it coming for a long time.”

Kristy Welker, a spokesperson for Target, tells Cars 108 that all eligible team members will have the option to transfer to other Target stores.

"The decision to close a Target store is not made lightly," Welker said. "We typically decide to close a store after careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location. Typically, the decision to close a store is as a result of seeing several years of decreasing profitability."

Last year, Kmart closed several stores in the US, including locations in Flint, Burton, Grand Blanc and Lapeer.

In addition to the Flint location, Target stores in New Ulm MN, Springfield OH, and Ottumwa IA will also be closing in January.
