The annual Tip-Up Town festivities in Houghton Lake kicked off yesterday and this year there is concern about the ice. If you are heading up there this weekend, you might want to read this.

Officials are stressing for everyone to use caution when hitting the lake this weekend.

The sheriff's department in Roscommon County and noticed a few areas of concern. First, ice is buckling up on shore, and second, they have found some pressure cracks in the ice. This leads them to believe that there may be some open water out there.

On Thursday, fishermen were reporting the ice to be between 12 and 18 inches. However, warm temperatures and rain may cause this to change.

Be safe out there.
