Tommy Lee Wants SeaWorld to Stop Torturing Whales With Loud Motley Crue Music

Drummer Tommy Lee has always been a huge proponent for animal rights, using his voice in the legendary rock band Motley Crue to promote fair and safe practices for animals. From his participation in the ‘Ink, Not Mink’ campaign with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to recently promoting the adoption of shelter dogs, his vision regarding animal cruelty has always been a clear one. Lee’s latest foray into animal rights centers around SeaWorld in San Diego, Calif. and more specifically their ‘Shamu Rocks’ show.

According to Lee, SeaWorld has been using Motley Crue songs as part of their killer whale show called ‘Shamu Rocks’ and he does not approve. In a letter sent by Lee and PETA to John T. Reilly, the theme park’s San Diego location president, Lee claims the loud music is abusive to the whales. “I’m writing to ask you not to play any Motley Crue songs at any of SeaWorld’s parks during this sad show,” the letter states. “Although we like to torture the human fans who willingly come to our shows, we don’t want to be a part of making innocent animals’ lives hellish.” Lee explained that he wants no part of the “sad” production, and that includes use of his band’s expansive discography.

This isn’t the first time SeaWorld has heard from Lee regarding what he deems to be their torturous practices towards animals though. According to sources, after a trainer was killed by an orca whale kept in captivity in SeaWorld’s Fla. location, Lee spoke out, saying the whale should be released.

Animals aren’t the only thing on Lee’s mind these days, Motley Crue and Kiss recently donated 100K to the victims of the Aurora, Colo. shooting victims hoping the good deed would set off a domino effect causing others to donate to the worthy cause.
