Working in the Flint area just sucks. According to reports, 9.6% of Flint's population was unemployed in January 2012. That's more than 17,500 people without jobs. With that said, I wanted to look at the brighter side of things and see what jobs we are not going to lose.

  • Mortician

I don't see the job security of a mortician going anywhere but up around here. Whether it be violent crimes, drug overdoses, or a stupid kid chugging hand sanitizer, these guys will definitely have their work cut out for them.

  • Koegel Meats Factory Worker

These guys are definitely the unsung heroes in Flint. If you're going to a bar-b-que, grabbing lunch at work, or soaking up the alcohol, you have to "Serve the Curve." A late night Koegel will not only save you from a DUI but also give you enough time to sober up and realize you got stuck with the fat friend and abort the mission.

  • Pot Grower

Now that it's 'legal' don't tell me you haven't thought about adding a room to your basement. I don't even smoke but I know I'm probably in the minority around Flint. It's good money and let's be honest -- potheads are not going away. Can you even imagine how violent Flint would be without pot to calm the masses? Scary isn't it!

  • Maggie Meadows' D.D.

The only job in America with 100% guaranteed security -- not even the president has this type of security. I'm actually thinking of teaching new interns every possible way to Maggie's house on day one of training. I'll have to push back how to get into the building and turn the alarm off to day two.

  • Plasma Center Technician

It's a tough economy out there and sometimes Coinstar and bottle deposits just don't cut it. I've never done it, but from what I understand, you can earn upwards of around $50 when you donate. I don't care who you are -- 50 bucks is 50 bucks. So needless to say, these technicians will definitely have some security in their jobs around here.
