Democratic Congressman Gary Peters beat challenger Republican Terri Lynn Land for a seat in the United States Senate on Tuesday. Peters who was up ten percentage points when he gave his victory speech, will replace retiring U.S. Senator Carl Levin. Peters began his career in public service after being appointed lottery commissioner by then Governor Jennfifer Granholm. He is a three-term Congressman who was first elected in 2008 when he beat Republican incumbent Joe Knollenberg.
