WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS GRAPHIC VIOLENCE AND HARSH LANGUAGE

PLEASE READ THE FULL ARTICLE -- THERE IS MORE TO THIS STORY

A vicious pit bull fight in Otisville was filmed by a neighbor, who says this kind of disgusting animal neglect has gone on for years, and has often spilled over into the surrounding neighborhood.

They say you can't pick your neighbors, which is mostly true. If you could, I'm sure the neighbors in this video would both rather the other lived elsewhere. For one of said parties -- I completely understand. Who would want to live next to, what is basically an amateur dog fighting ring? I have kids, and I would either fence in my entire yard or never let them outside if there were big dogs running wild like this next door.

I have stated some unpopular opinions related to dogs in the past, but my beef is actually not with dogs at all. It's with the people who blindly defend them and always side with the animals over humans, regardless of the circumstance. A common argument among the never-blame-the-dog people is that dogs only act this way if their owners are irresponsible, which I do not agree with in every case, or even in theory, but it does appear that the owners of the dogs in this video have no business owning multiple pit bulls.

The neighbor, who says this sort of thing has gone on next door for four or five years, is fed up with these awful sights and sounds near his home. He filmed the most recent incident, where two pit bulls practically rip a third one to shreds, after receiving "no help from the local [police department]." What's even more ridiculous than that, is that he has been receiving death threats since the video has gone viral, and there have been people yelling outside of his home for the past two nights.

You might not agree with what he says in the video, but you have to remember -- he says that this has gone on for years. He said he's aware some of his comments were harsh, but they came from a place of frustration with the owners. He also said he has nothing against pit bulls as a breed. Honestly, I would be pretty fed up too.

Everyone's concern should be for the safety of the animals and the neighborhood. Why did the people in the video not grab the aggressive dogs by their collars and drag them away? In fact, it appeared they were hitting the dog being attacked several times, which makes no sense at all. I'm not a dog owner, and have little to no experience breaking up a dog fight, but it would appear that these folks don't have a clue either. For the record, the neighbor says he hasn't seen the people in that video before, and is unaware of their connection to the owners of the dogs and/or the home.

Perhaps the most ridiculous part of this story is the fact that people are turning on the neighbor, whose video brought attention to an ongoing problem. Who cares how he feels about the neighbors dogs? They're not his. I would think dog lovers would be glad he did something to bring awareness to this dangerous situation, not retaliating because he might not love these pit bulls like you love yours. That's just ridiculous.

Animal Control and local police are aware of the situation and have seen the video. The neighbor claims that the local police were not compelled to take action. It is also unknown how severely the dog being attacked in the video is hurt.

The neighbor says that the dog owners are in constant violation of Otisville's 3-dog limit, and usually have 5-8 dogs on the premises. He has complained to authorities in person about this issue at least 13 times, and no action has been taken. He claims the dogs bark all night, and that they have gotten loose on several occasions, causing he and his family to flee the animals' seemingly aggressive pursuits.

The neighbor asked to remain anonymous, but is now being terrorized because of the video. He says he only posted it publicly to bring attention to the chaos that goes on next door on a regular basis, but now has received multiple death threats because of it. There are also people parking outside of his house and threatening violence and destruction at all hours of the night.

It is unclear whether the aggressors are friends of the dog owners, people upset by his words in the video, or a mixture of both. Either way, treating someone like this for reporting an ongoing animal nuisance, where the animals are actually in danger, is total BS. What is going on there, based on his statements and the video, is a danger to the public and completely unacceptable. He should not have to lose sleep guarding his property all night, as none of this is his fault -- he's just forced to deal with it every day. Also, those dogs should be in more capable hands, and an environment where they're not a threat to each other and innocent bystanders.

UPDATE: The owner of the dog receiving the most damage in the video contacted us and said this is the first time something like this has happened. There are also conflicting reports about the dogs past behavior, with some neighbors saying they are a problem and one person saying that they have seen the man who filmed the fight antagonizing the dogs. Unfortunately for those who want the facts, there's a decent amount of he said/she said involved in the story. Neighborhood disputes -- the struggle is real.

According to NBC25, the police chief said the following about the matter: “The dogs were immediately taken for medical treatment not only once but twice. The night of the incident and the following day. The dogs have been licensed, their shots are valid and there is no criminal complaint, no intent." The case has since been passed off to animal control.
