We've all heard mash-ups before, but rarely is it a big name artist pulling them off. However, Chris Cornell's fall acoustic trek in support of his Higher Truth album has allowed for a looser show in which Cornell has been dabbling outside of his own catalog with the occasional cover song and musical surprise. One of those surprises at recent gigs has been his unique acoustic rendition of "One." But which "One"?

As Cornell reveals in the fan-shot performance footage above, he went online to get the lyrics to U2's "One" because he didn't know it by heart, but entered "One lyrics" for his search and found that Metallica's lyrics to "One" came up first. That gave him the idea to see how the two songs worked together.

As we see in this performance at the Santander Performance Arts Center in Reading, Pa. from earlier this month, the songs work pretty well together with some of Metallica's hardest hitting lyrics fitting in right when U2's "One" music starts to intensify.

Kudos for Cornell for attempting to pair the two versions of "One" together. Cornell is finishing out the month and spending the early part of December in Australia before returning stateside for a few radio holiday festival dates. See his current itinerary here.
