Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland recently made waves when he posted a photo on Instagram with an eyebrow-raising caption poking fun at their fans and their music scene. Borland opened up afterwards clearing the air and discussed being a part of the band, saying he is "infected" by "Limp Bizkit AIDS" and he also addresses turning 40 and starting a new chapter of his life.

Borland’s aforementioned Instagram post poked fun at the group’s current ShipRocked performances. He wrote, “Can’t wait to see me some roided out tribal tattooed spray tanned Jell-O shot filled bohunks do their best drunk MMA impressions in the top deck mosh pit. Whenever we aren’t on stage, I’ll be curled up fetal position in my cabin, palms up, while I desperately cling to the last week of my thirties as it slips through my hooked fingers. So, I’d like to give a shout out now to all the other over-the-hill late nineties/early 2000s bands going on the cruise: Let’s give these people the raging alcohol fueled nostalgia fest they’re paying for guys! I know we can do it if we tune down low enough!”

The guitarist then spoke to both Stereogum to clear the air saying, “It’s funny when you make a joke that also has truth in it, people are going to take whatever they want out of it.”

He also offered that he does not hate being in Limp Bizkit. He said he is “very aware of the band.” Borland continued, “You know, I totally get tons of people don’t like it and think it’s a joke. And then we have a really strong fan base that are great. And it’s been something I’ve always been part of, on and off, but something that’s always been my band, and whether people think it’s dumb or not, or elements of it aren’t cool, whatever.” He also shared, “I really like my band. Do I listen to that genre of music? No. But do I participate in my band and do I enjoy playing with those guys? Yeah, it feels like home. I’ve known them for 20 years and developed as a player with John on drums and Sam on bass, and it’s part of my DNA, I guess. It feels good.”

Borland also opened up to Metal Insider sharing the reason he has returned to Limp Bizkit after twice leaving the band in the past. He said, “I went back to Limp Bizkit because it felt like I couldn’t get it out of my blood. I basically had Limp Bizkit AIDS and was infected. No matter what I did, that was me. I started that band with those guys. It just feels more natural to be there. We’re getting older. I’m not sure how much longer we’ll be a band. Who knows? We still get to play really big shows all over the world, and it’s kind of hard to say no. People still want to hear our music.”

The guitarist also shared that he and his girlfriend are leaving Los Angeles to move to Detroit. He said, “Detroit is a city that needs people to come there. There’s a king of gentrification going on, there’s a bunch of people who are really excited to build and steer the city after the bankruptcy.” He added, “Detroit’s exciting, and it’s recovering from bankruptcy and has all this urban farming there, new galleries opening up, artists are flooding in. It’s really similar to how Brooklyn was ten years ago.”

Borland concluded by saying he is going to “restart” in Detroit and he is “just going to start fresh, sort of re-blank canvas my life artistically.”
