It's sad news to report today that 13 dogs have died in a kennel fire on the west side of the state.

There is some good news which is hard to believe when you hear about 13 dogs that died in a fire. According to ABC12, more than two dozen other dogs were rescued in the fire which took place at Whispering Oaks Farm Kennel in Ottawa County's Allendale Township.

Apparently, a garage that was being used as a kennel caught fire and unfortunately, there wasn't a hydrant nearby so crews from several fire departments shuttled water to the burning kennel.

It's unclear at the moment as to the cause of today's fire but it's still under investigation.

It's so sad to think that 13 Michigan families no longer have a dog to come home to. I don't even know how I would explain something so tragic to my son.
