The 1986 record of 61 homicides for the year was tied and then broken yesterday.  Flint police recorded the 62nd homicide just minutes after the mayor and chief of police finished a news conference about the 61st homicide of the year!

It's pretty sad that Flint is averaging at least one murder a week!  Finally, the Flint City Council is calling on Flint residents to take back the community!

The latest homicide is days away from the layoffs of 20 police officers.

"As a community, we have to take a proactive stance," said City Council President Jackie Poplar.

Poplar is asking Flint to be on alert.

The police force is limited and needs all the help they can get.

"We must help our officers put a stop to this," she said. "We need the police, but police are reactive. They have no idea what's going on behind the doors of these homes."
