The old 1970s commercial claimed nothing was more American than "baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet". So why not merge them all together?

Celebrity chef Guy Fieri was in the Motor City to come up with a creation for the upcoming "Field of Dreams" game this Thursday in Iowa.

Since the game is an ode to the small town roots of baseball in America, and since its corporate sponsor is Chevrolet, the only two items left in the equation were hot dogs and apple pie. Well, I think we all know where this is headed.

He's created a special hot dog apple pie just for the occasion . . . 'cause there's nothing like jamming together two timeless American dishes for America's favorite pastime.

The delicacy is described as a hot dog smothered in Guy's homemade bacon jam and apple filling, then placed inside a flakey rectangle-shaped pie crust . . . then drizzled with apple mustard, brown sugar, and apple pie spice.

He calls it a, quote, "funky throwback snack" and can't wait to see what people think of it.

The tempting taste treat will be served at the "Field of Dreams" game, which will pit the New York Yankees against the Chicago White Sox from the original "Field of Dreams", located in a corn field near Dyersville, Iowa.

No word yet if the game will be competed by dead Yankees and White Sox who walk in from the cornfield to play, but that would be super cool. Shoeless Joe Jackson and Babe Ruth going head to head, followed by Kevin Costner playing catch with Ray Liotta? How beautiful!
