For the first time since 1997, the Detroit Tigers had the number one overall draft pick. That year they selected a pitcher from Rice University Matt Anderson. Remeber that dude? Ya me either.

Due to the dismal season they had last year with being the worst team in baseball, the Tigers selected Auburn All-American pitcher Casey Mize. The cant miss junior pitcher posted solid numbers while in college. Having a 2.81 ERA while pitching 262 1/3 innings walking only 39 batters while having 319 strikeouts.

Solid numbers playing in a very competitive SEC conference which has had many past national champions in baseball. But some of the high profile players that the Tigers have selected have not done so well in the past.  As they say, can never have enough pitching so we will just have to see how Mize will do if he in facts makes it to the majors.
