First Case of Legionnaires’ Disease in 2016 Confirmed in Genesee County
First off, let's start by saying there is no indication the person was exposed to Legionella bacteria in Flint according to the The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Not many details have been released so far aside from the person being over the age of 65. Health officials are trying to pinpoint where this person was first exposed.
According to ABC12, over a 17-month period between 2014 and 2015 there were at least 91 Legionnaires' cases, including 12 deaths in the Flint area.
I've heard of Legionnaires' disease but didn't really know what it was. Apparently people get sick if they inhale mist or vapor from contaminated water systems which causes pneumonia from bacteria in the lungs.
