Michigan has several popular state parks but one is the most popular and will close its gates after Labor Day for 10 months.

There is no shortage of Michigan State Parks to visit you can find them from top to bottom across the state. Tahquamenon Falls State Park is a favorite with the largest falls east of the Mississippi.

Another great park is Wilderness State Park which features over 20 miles of trails, 26 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, and views of the Mackinac Bridge.

One of my favorites is Grand Haven State Park. Swimming, volleyball, fishing, hiking, a nice playground for the kids, a snack bar, and clean bathrooms. This is a popular West Michigan park to visit and I highly recommend the park.

Silver Lake State Park also has the Silver Lake Sand Dunes with miles of fun for dune buggies, side-by-sides, 4X4s, ATVs, and motorcycles. I could go on and on about the countless Michigan State Parks but the most popular one will close down for 10 months.

One of Michigan's most popular state parks is Ludington State Park. I have been there several times and it's a beautiful area. It has a great beach, plenty of camping, lighthouses, kayaking, swimming, fishing, indoor and outdoor activities. You won't run out of things to do if you spend a week at Ludington State Park.

If you plan on taking a trip to Ludington State Park you have until Labor Day to get there because the day after the park will close for 10 months.

According to MLive, Ludington State Park will close on September 3, 2024, and re-open on July 1, 2025 for construction. Part of the American Rescue Plan was made available to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources with $4.26 million being used to upgrade the park.

The main road will be repaved, and parking lots will be repaved and expanded making it easier for people to get in and out of the park.
