For many autumn is a favorite season. It's pumpkins and hayrides, football and falling leaves. There's a magnificent homage to the fall season at the focal point of a small town just south of the Michigan state line.

The town is Wakarusa, Indiana, in southern Elkhart County and 15 miles south of the Michigan state line. The pumpkin tower is at the intersection of Elkhart and Waterford Streets at the heart of the town.

Check out this photo which either came from a drone or from a building at the intersection and shared on Reddit.

Small town America

I like it great decoration for Halloween

Between Wakarusa and Nappanee, I’m not sure there’s a better combination of small communities so close in the country.

Nice little town, visit the dime store if you're ever driving through.

That last suggestion is a good one. The Wakarusa Dime Store is an iconic business in the area.

So there's a giant pumpkin tree in the center of the busiest intersection in town. Just how much of a disaster is that? According to locals, the pumpkin tower has been erected every year for years and no one can remember either an accident or anyone toppling the tree.

Perhaps you can make out from the picture that no left turns are permitted. That helps with the safety. And the intersection has a standard red-yellow-green traffic light so neither is the pumpkin tower a roundabout.

So should you find yourself near the Michigan/Indiana line during autumn, you may want to make a little side trip to Wakarusa to see the annual pumpkin tower.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.

These 9 Items Have Been Pumpkin-Spiced...And They Didn't Need To Be

There is an almost "cult-like" obsession when it comes to pumpkin spice. And I blame Starbucks for starting all of it.

At least coffee is something that makes sense to flavor with pumpkin spice. Some of the other creations that have been popping up through the years with this added flavor are...well...not necessary.
