Michigan Is About To See Our First Snow Moon In A Year, Here’s When
I always find it cool when I’m driving into work in the morning seeing the moon appear bigger than ever in the night sky. Because the moon goes through different phases when it reaches its peak, it can seem as if it is thousands of miles closer to the Earth than it actually is.
Although it seems close, the moon is still 250,000 miles roughly away from Earth. But that doesn’t make it any less special when it is at its peak. Coming up next week Michigan will be able to see our first snow moon in over a year. But what exactly is a snow moon?

Is it a moon that resembles snow, or a giant snowflake that resembles the moon?
No, it’s actually none of those things. It’s the moon when it’s at its full peak during its lunar cycle for the month. We had our first new moon on January 29, then the moon moved into its first quarter on February 5. So when will we be able to get to see our snow moon?
Our full moon in February, also known as the snow moon will be on full display on February 12, before moving to its last quarter on February 20 and finally the new moon on February 28.
Coming up in March is what we will be calling our Worm Moon. Can you take a guess as to why we call it that? No, it doesn't mean because we're drinking tequila to cope with it still being winter when it should be spring.
