When we think of deserted neighborhoods littered and lined with endless empty houses, Detroit instinctively comes to mind. But we all know most of our big cities, towns, villages, burgs, and hamlets all have their down-trodden sections.

Flint's history and decline are well-documented. According to my previous Flint neighborhood article, beginning in the 1960s Flint's problems began. GM downsized and over the years, ended up letting go almost ninety per cent of its employees. By 2010, half of the town's population had left. Neighborhoods were left empty, crime rose, and Flint became known as one of the most dangerous cities in the United States.

Many of the empty houses don't just sit empty – some have been used for the homeless, transients, drug deals, flop houses, vandals, runaways, meth labs...and the occasional murder. Driving thru a deserted neighborhood with abandoned house after house, your mind can picture just what went on here. Driving down these streets at night can be a nerve-wrenching experience: street lights have been shot out, making every shadow come alive as your headlights hit them...an occasional sight of someone dressed in dark attire walking alone down the street might make you step on the gas a little harder.

These aren't places where you wanna take your date for a moonlight drive...unless you don't want to see that person anymore. Stick to daytime drives and take one or two extra passengers with you. Now take a look at this second collection of abandoned Flint neighborhoods...
