For months, the Baldwin Road bridge just east of Fenton Road was closed, causing traffic delays and frustration for commuters forced to go miles out of their way. But even after the project wrapped up, confusion has continued — and now it's about to get worse again.

More frustration has erupted for area residents since the bridge’s completion, as detour signs have remained up, continuing to redirect traffic. Drivers have become infuriated after following the several-mile-long detour — wasting gas and time — only to discover that the road is actually wide open.

Why Are the Detour Signs Still Up?

While the signs have been up for weeks after the bridge reopened, it turns out there’s a reason. The Genesee County Road Commission has announced that Baldwin Road, near the border of Mundy Township and Grand Blanc Township, will once again close on Monday, August 4, 2025.

How Long Will Bridge Closure This Last?

Fortunately, this time the closure won’t last for months, weeks, or even days. Weather permitting, the planned epoxy and saline treatment should only take one day, according to Road Commission Construction Manager Gerrad Godley.

What Drivers Should Know

Motorists should note that although the work is limited to the bridge itself, Baldwin Road will be closed in both directions between Fenton Road and Dort Highway on Monday. Commuters are urged to follow the posted detour signs, which will once again be active and enforced.

What the Genesee County Road Commission Says

The Genesee County Road Commission’s public statement reads:

“The Genesee County Road Commission will close the Baldwin Rd. Bridge (east of Fenton Rd.) on Monday, August 4 for an epoxy and saline treatment. The closure is expected to last one day. The detour takes drivers from Fenton Rd. to Grand Blanc Rd. to Dort Hwy. and vice versa. The work is weather permitting. Motorists should allow additional time to reach their destination.”

Almost all of these once-popular chains have completely disappeared, but there are a couple that are looking to make a comeback.
