Genesee County families facing food insecurity will soon have more support, as a Grand Blanc church prepares to kick off a series of food distributions aimed at helping those in need.

Holy Spirit Lutheran Church on Fenton Road in Grand Blanc is partnering with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to host monthly food distributions. The church has been providing this vital service since 2007, marking 19 years of supporting local families in need.

Free Food Distributions in Grand Blanc

As inflation and rising costs continue to strain family budgets, the congregation of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church understands that this community service is more vital than ever.

“It is easy to read the statistics about food insecurity in Michigan and forget that one in nine people is food insecure, but when you see the parking lot full of vehicles, and load groceries into a car for a family that cannot stop saying, ‘thank you!’ it changes you,” said Pastor Nathan Allen. “I feel more connected to our community and grateful for what I have every time I serve at one of these distributions.”

On average, the church serves 200 households (approximately 400 to 600 people) and distributes 16 to 18 pallets of food at each distribution.
