Grand Blanc Lottery Club Hits $1 Million Powerball Prize — Here’s How a Group of Coworkers Won Big
A group of 18 coworkers in Grand Blanc turned an office lottery pool into a seven-figure payday, claiming a $1 million Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.
Grand Blanc Coworkers Claim $1 Million Powerball Prize
Their ticket matched the five white balls in the August 20 drawing, earning the club a “Match 5” prize that the group collected this week.
According to the Michigan Lottery, the winning ticket was purchased at the Speedway on Perry Road in Grand Blanc. The club’s representative told lottery officials that the coworkers have been playing together for years, buying tickets whenever jackpots reach the “attention-grabbing range.”
How the Office Lottery Pool Worked
Our club is a group of coworkers who play the Lottery together whenever there is a big jackpot, said Nicholas Stockwell, the club’s representative. I bought several Powerball tickets for our club and checked them the night of the drawing by scanning them.
Stockwell said that when he discovered one of the tickets was a big winner, his coworkers didn’t believe him at first.
When one came back as a $1 million winner, I sent out a text to the group with the news, but no one believed me at first, he said. It was a pretty cool experience for everyone once it finally sunk in that it was real!
Michigan Celebrates Another Big Powerball Win
The news comes as Michigan celebrates another Powerball win. A $1 million Match 5 ticket for last night’s December 10 drawing was also sold online through the Michigan Lottery’s website — one of just three nationwide.
Michigan’s $1 million Powerball winner from last night remains a mystery, with the ticket holder not yet identified.
