Major Grocery Chain About To Lay Off Roughly 200 Employees
Months after a failed merger with Albertsons, Kroger is said to be eliminating about 200 positions company-wide.
Although sources say the massive layoff is not connected to the failed $24.6 billion deal, the job layoffs are occurring at the corporate level, across three office sites at the company's headquarters in Cincinnati.
Failed Merger Between Kroger and Albertsons
In December last year, a federal judge blocked the Kroger-Albertsons merger, saying it would create an 'undue market concentration.' This report indicates that Albertsons is suing Kroger, claiming that it breached the merger agreement.

Albertsons, which does not have a presence in Michigan, recently announced a plan to lay off nearly 400 corporate employees later this month.

According to Supermarket News, the layoffs took place last week as the Cincinnati-based company looks to "shut down or lower the priority of projects the company has opted not to continue."
Some of the layoffs are said to be with the chain's data compilation and analysis unit and its technology and digital team.
