Mooyah and Marathon Projects Stuck in Limbo Across Mid-Michigan
Late last year and into this year, several construction projects popped up all over Mid-Michigan—many of them soon-to-be gas stations. But as we head into fall, most of those gas station projects have been delayed, stalled, or turned into a waiting game.
Marathon Construction Projects Stall Across Mid-Michigan
Construction began last year at the corner of Bristol and Linden Roads in Flint Township on a large gas station complex that would also house two other businesses. In May 2025, signs went up for the much-anticipated Mooyah Burgers, which was originally slated to open in spring 2024.

Grand Blanc’s Marathon Conversion Hits a Snag
The former location of The Grand Blanc Inn on Dort Highway in Grand Blanc Township is also being converted into a Marathon station. So, what’s happening with Mid-Michigan’s massive Marathon takeover? We got some answers from Mike at BG’s Party Store on Center Road in Burton. That store is also becoming a Marathon station and has already constructed its pumps and renovated the building and parking lot while remaining open to the public.
State Licensing Delays Could Be to Blame
BG’s gas pumps have been up for over a month, but the gas station is still not operational. The reason? Licensing delays from the state. Mike believes this issue is not only preventing him from selling gas but may also be holding up other construction projects. The current government shutdown will likely delay permits and licenses even further.
