Novi School District Creates Epic School Closing Video
'I Wanna Stay Home'—the words spoken recently by thousands of students across Michigan—have been creatively put into song in this epic school closing video created by the Novi Community School District.
The video, used to announce school cancellation in the district, is a parody song inspired by 'Die With a Smile' by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. That video is featured below.
Novi Superintendent Has a Passion for Creating Epic School Closing Videos
Ben Mainka is the Superintendent of the Novi Community School District. Mainka previously served in the same capacity at Swartz Creek Community Schools, where he and then-High School Principal Jim Kitchen orchestrated the production of several videos announcing school cancelations.

Remember 'Stay at Home, Stay at Home' which was arguably better than the original song from 'Frozen,' 'It's a Snow Day' (to the tune of Hallelujah), and 'Snow Day Swagger'? Mainka was the mastermind behind all those videos.
And if the Novi top boss ever thought about creating a 'Greatest Hits' album, it would also include the 'Hometown Road' parody and this very touching video the pair created in 2019 to honor a Swartz Creek student who was battling cancer.

The video features a number of students from some of the district's 10 school buildings, showcasing their vocal and acting talents. Mainka is front and center on the song's chorus, which was changed to 'When the snow is falling, you should stay home from school.'
