Michigan Web Surfers Could be Part of $115M Settlement From Oracle

If you've spent any time surfing the web over the past six years, you're probably eligible to take part in a $115 million settlement with the technology company Oracle.

As is the case with any class action suit, you'll have to submit a claim, but keep in mind the deadline in October 17, 2024.

What is the Oracle Settlement About?

The suit (Katz-Lacabe et al v. Oracle America, Inc.) alleges 'deliberate and purposeful' surveillance of internet users, alleging that the technology giant was capturing detailed personal information from millions of people who were using the web and selling that data to third parties. (Shocking, right?)

Are You Eligible for a Payment?

Anyone whose personal information was collected by Oracle's advertising technologies from August 19, 2018 until the final judgement in the case (November 2024) is eligible.

How Much Money Will be Distributed?

As with all class action suits, the payment issued to each recipient depends on the number of participants. (So it could be a couple of bucks, a few hundred dollars, or who knows?)

After the lawyers all get their cut, about $86.5 million will be left to distribute to those of us who participate in the suit. Class members can receive payment via Zelle, Venmo, ACH Transfer or a paper check.

How Do You File a Claim?

According to USA Today, there are two ways to participate.

You can download a copy of the claim form or call 888-255-4036 to have one mailed to you. If you're filing by mail, claim forms should be sent to Katz-Lacabe et al v. Oracle America, Inc., c/o Settlement Administrator, 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA  19103.

The deadline to file is October 17, 2024.
