The end of an era for a retail giant is coming to an end here in Mid-Michigan.

K-Mart announced over the weekend that multiple stores located in Michigan will close including Belleville, Hastings, Menominee, Midland, Clio, Grayling, Oscoda, and Marine City. A spokesperson for the company said in an interview that liquidation sales are expected to begin in mid-September, with a plan in place to close the stores by the end of 2019. The Clio store located right off of I-75 in Vienna Township was the last store located in Genesee County. Now there will be no more.

Since 2012 there has been a total of five K-Mart stores that have closed in the area. The buildings that the stores occupied are now being used by other companies. The former Burton K-Mart location has split up into a Family-Farm and Home along with a Dollar Tree, as well as the new Spirit Halloween that occupies the remainder of the space. T.J Maxx recently moved its Flint store on Center and Lapeer roads to the previous home of the Fenton K-Mart located off Silver Parkway.
