Michigan TSA Agents List Guns and Chinese Throwing Stars As Items Found on Passengers
Ever since terrorists began flying commercial airliners into skyscrapers, the United States has been somewhat nervous about the items travellers take on flights – and for good reason. Although the entire tourist population is aware by now that there is a little organization called the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), whose primary job is to prevent terrorist attacks, people are still trying to smuggle weapons on planes.
A recent report from the Detroit Free Press indicates that at Detroit Metro Airport, TSA seized 32 guns from passengers in 2014, with items such as brass knuckles, a razor knife, a meat clever, Chinese throwing stars, and a grenade being among some of the other items found in carry on luggage. WTF?
On a local level, people caught with firearms at an airport are arrested and can face penalties of up to a year in jail and $1,000 fine. Yet, if the government decides to make a federal case out of the matter, the offender can receive fines of up to $11,000.
Interestingly, TSA officials report agents discovered six guns per day nationwide in 2014 – 80 percent of which were loaded. So, remember this the next time you find yourself annoyed with airport security.
