On the heels of the announcement that Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the seminal grunge will receive yet another honor. This coming year, the town of Hoquiam, Wash., will declare April 10 as Nirvana Day.

Along with Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens and various others, Nirvana will be a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 2014 class. The Rock Hall induction ceremony will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 10, the same day that the mayor of Hoquiam will mark Nirvana Day.

Hoquiam Mayor Jack Durney spoke about how Nirvana left a notably positive impression on Washington's Grays Harbor area. “They bring great honor, I think as I say, to our entire community," says Durney. "And I think that it’s good Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a little while, but he and Krist Novoselic are part of our community, and I think it’s good to honor our sons and their great accomplishments.” [via KXRO]

Kurt Cobain grew up in nearby Aberdeen but also lived in Hoquiam for a short period. Both Nirvana Day and the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will occur only five days following the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death.
