Season six of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones is boiling to a head with just two episodes left until the year-long wait begins again. As any fan of the program knows, the costumery, special effects and makeup are world class and Anthrax's Scott Ian has gone in depth, being transformed into a White Walker while taking a behind the scenes look on his Bloodworks series.

Partnering with Nerdist for Bloodworks, Ian works with one of the Game of Thrones artists. Laid out on a table in front of both of them is the elaborate pieces of the White Walker costume, including ribbed torso garments, shoulder pads, an ice sword and, of course, the thin and detailed applications of the mask and other flesh-exposed areas.

Each piece of the White Walker's signature facial features are applied to Ian, who is astonished at the intricacies of each piece and how malleable it is when being worn as it contorts to all movements of the face. Further into the video, they show the mix of green screen techniques applied to the costume that are animated in post-production through CGI work.

Scott Ian is not the first metal musician to appear on Game of ThronesBrann Dailor, Bill Kelliher and Brent Hinds of Mastodon were cast as 'Wildlings' in Hardhome, episode nine of last season. The Anthrax guitarist was also featured as a zombie who was killed in an episode of The Walking Dead.

Anthrax released their 11th studio album, For All Kings, earlier this year, peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard 200. The thrash legends will head back out on the road in September, serving as direct support for Slayer and rounded out by openers Death Angel.
