The City of Flint is expected to receive the pleasure of having several brand spanking new members of the Michigan State Police patrolling the streets in the coming weeks. Reports indicate that four rookie officers will be assigned to the area once they complete Trooper Recruit School later this month.

The officers (Cole Martin, Lucas Mickelson, Evan Neilson and Christopher Hardaway) have been training for their respective positions since March, and they’ll work to complete their on-the-job- training right here in Flint. But first, they must endure a few more weeks in the classroom, where they are said to have a rigorous scheduled of physical and mental training….and they’re going to need it.

In May, Flint police investigated their 22nd homicide – an indication that murders are on the rise across the city. There were a total of 30 homicides in Flint last year. Let’s just hope that these new officers assit the city in reducing violence rather than focusing in on petty offenses, such as possession of marijuana and other drug-related crimes.
